Mustek Global :

If you are new to OCR, the answer is simple: OCR saves you time!

OCR, an acronym for Optical Character Recognition, is a technology developed to translate graphical text into editable text. This technology is especially useful when scanning pages of printed text document. For example, you have a paper document that you want to get onto your computer to edit or to share with others via a web site E-mail. Using the OCR software, you don't always have access to the electronic version of the source document and besides, retyping documents is very time consuming!

However, it only works best under specific conditions such as:

1) When most text were typed or printed.
2) When the text portion of an image were scanned at 300 dpi
    under Line Art mode.

The recognized text can be then saved under various editable text format such as *.doc for Microsoft Word.

Please refer to the following steps to scan text or documents:

  1. Open the TextBridge OCR program by clicking through a series of contextual menu as shown.
  2. Start Menu/Programs/Text Bridge Classic folder/TextBridge Classic icon

  3. Click the Scanner icon.
  4. Click GO!
  5. Set the resolution (300 dpi recommended), and then set the scan mode to Line Art.
  6. Scan Mode = Text / Line Art
Resolution = 300 dpi (or higher)
    Scan Source = Reflective

  7. At this point, you may either begin to scan a new text document by selecting the "Scanner" radial button or open an previously scanned text document to perform the OCR treatment by selecting the "Image File" radial button. Then press OK.
  8. Press Auto Process button to begin the text recognition process. If you have more than one page to be recognized, press More Pages. Otherwise, press End when you are finished scanning.
  9. In the Save As dialog box, type in a file name and location.
  10. From your wordprocessing software, select the file and open it.

Note: OCR software cannot scan in Color or Gray mode.
